“Last Chance” Seminar Dec. 19: Free 2 hr CLE, incl. ethics!

Finding yourself a couple of credits short of your 2011 CLE requirements? Come to the LCBA’s LAST CHANCE SEMINAR on Monday, December 19, 2011 from 4-6 p.m. at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, 410 Third Avenue SE, Cedar Rapids.

This CLE is FREE for all dues-paid LCBA members. The CLE will net you two (2) state CLE hours, including an all-important 1.5 hours ETHICS credit. The LCBA is even providing food and drink to make this an enjoyable and pain-free CLE event. Plus, on-site parking is available!

The CLE program is as follows:
4-5 p.m. ETHICS! We welcome back Todd Scott of Minnesota Lawyers Mutual, who will speak on ethical issues dealing with social media.

5-5:30 p.m. NON-PROFIT LAW. What you need to know if you serve on a non-profit board. LCBA member Andrew Hosmanek presents.

5:30-6 p.m. MORE ETHICS! Learn about the recent developments in the law regarding lawyer advertising and the Iowa Supreme Court’s current study of Iowa’s lawyer advertising rules. LCBA members Bob Rush and David O’Brien, who serve on the Court’s recently appointed Committee to Study Advertising Rules, will present.

Summer Outing CLE 7/14: Schedule!

3:30-4:30  PROBATE LEGISLATIVE UPDATE.  There have been several changes to the Probate & Trust Codes in 2010.  Learn how to use and benefit from these changes.  Presented by Susan Pence, Vice President & Trust Officer, Bankers Trust Company and former Chair of the ISBA Probate & Trust Section.
4:30-5:30 ETHICS!  Karen Erger, Vice President, Holmes Murphy & Associates, will be presenting an educational and entertaining talk on current ethics issues.  If you attended the LCBA’s Summer Outing CLE this year, you’ll know that Karen’s ethics CLE presentations are not to be missed!

 The Linn County Bar Association’s Summer Outing, set for Thursday, July 8, is quickly approaching!  Please remember to return your postcard RSVPs (plus the separate postcard if you’re golfing) as soon as possible.   If you’ve lost your postcards, you can also register via telephone by calling Amy at Luneckas & Newhouse at 294-8777.

LCBA Annual Meeting June 17; elections & legislative update

The Annual Meeting of the Linn County Bar Association will be held Thursday, June 17 from 12 – 1 p.m. at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art.    A half-hour “Legislative Update” CLE will be presented.  The speakers will be Iowa State Senator Rob Hogg of Elderkin & Pirnie and Iowa House Republican Leader Kraig Paulsen.   Lunch is $7. 

Elections for officers for the 2010-2011 term will also be held. Nominees are:
