An invite from the Linn Law Club to a Forum on Judicial Retention:
As you know, a number of Iowa Supreme Court Justices and district court judges face retention elections this fall, including Justice David Wiggins, the target of an anti-retention campaign based on his participation in the Iowa Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling in Varnum v. Brien. The Iowa State Bar Association, Linn County Bar Association, and Linn Law Club have expressed their support for the retention of Iowa’s judges.
To facilitate discussion of Iowa’s judicial retention system, the Linn Law Club has partnered with ImpactCR, a committee of the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, to host an event on the topic next Wednesday, October 24, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library. Speakers will include Steven Pace, former Member of the Judicial Nominating Commission for the Iowa Supreme Court and Iowa Court of Appeals; Matt Dummermuth, former U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa; Justice David Baker, former Justice of the Iowa Supreme Court; and Patrick Baird, former President and CEO of AEGON USA, LLC. Light refreshments will be provided. Attached to this email is a flyer for the event; if you have any questions, feel free to contact Ray Rinkol, who has generously helped plan the event, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This forum is open to the public, and is largely based on the desire to discuss the topic of judicial retention with the public and any who may have questions on the process or wish to learn more about it. Please plan to attend, and spread the word to family, friends, and colleagues!

There is only one week left to contribute to the Linn Law Club’s Sixth Annual Holiday Fund Drive. Last year the Club raised over $9,000 which purchased gifts and food for 22 local families (totaling 99 individuals) through HACAP (Hawkeye Area Community Action Program). As of November 30 this year, the Club had received $2,000 in donations. The Club needs your help to reach last year’s outstanding results! Once again, prizes will be awarded to the office with the highest donations and the office with the highest per attorney donation. The Club’s shopping and wrapping date is set for December 12 so please mail your donation, payable to Linn Law Club, by Friday, December 7. You can mail your 100% tax deductible donation to:
