The University of Iowa Mock Trial team is seeking volunteers to act as mock trial judges for its 10th Annual Cornshucker Challenge November 13 and 14. The Cornshucker Challenge is one of the longest-running and most competitive undergraduate Mock Trial tournaments in the nation. This year’s tournament will feature 30 teams. There will be representatives from schools nationwide such as University of California-Berkley, Washington University in St. Louis, and Northwestern University, as well as Iowa schools such as Cornell College, Drake University, and Loras College.

The tournament will be held on the University of Iowa Campus at the English and Philosophy Building on Iowa Avenue. On Saturday, November 13, Round 1 is at 10:00 and Round 2 is at 3:00. On Sunday, November 14, Round 3 is at 9:00 and Round 4 is at 2:00. The University of Iowa College of Law is seeking volunteers to act as arbitrator judges when it hosts an ABA Law Student Division Regional Arbitration Competition on November 20-21, 2010. The competition simulates a realistic arbitration hearing with students portraying attorneys and witnesses.  This competition provides law students with legal training in arbitration and promotes excellence in arbitration advocacy. Participating students prepare and present an arbitration case. Their presentation will include opening statements, witness examinations, exhibit introductions, evidentiary presentations and summations. This year, the case involves an employment dispute concerning the discharge of a whistle-blowing employee.

The rounds will be held in Iowa City on Saturday, Nov. 20 and Sunday, Nov. 21 as follows:

Round 1 – Saturday, November 20 (8:00 am to 12:00 pm)
Round 2 – Saturday, November 20 (1:00 pm to 4:30 pm)
Semifinal Round – Sunday, November 21 (8:00 am to 12:00 pm)
Final Round – Sunday, November 21 (1:00 pm to 4:30 pm)

If you wish to serve as a judge, please e-mail UIArbitrationRegional@gmail.com with your availability. Approximately 54 judges are needed.  The tournament coordinators at Iowa will provide the case file and competition rules to you a few weeks prior to the competition.  Briefly reviewing these materials is the only preparation required of you.
