Linn County Bar Association members — remember to join the LCBA for its “May LCBA Meeting” this Thursday, May 20, beginning at 12:05 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Stadium for a game between our local Cedar Rapids Kernels and the Quad Cities River Bandits. We have reserved the Pavilion area at the ball park for our LCBA group. The LCBA Board of Governors will be at the ballpark a half hour before game time to hand out your tickets. Look for our table by the ballpark entrance. The deadline for RSVP requests has passed, but those of you who didn’t RSVP may still join us. Game tickets are $9, and for an additional $15, members may purchase an all-you-can-eat-and-drink wristband, good from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the day of the game.
The Sixth District Judicial Nominating Commission has named Mary Chicchelly, Cedar Rapids, and Paul Miller, Iowa City, as the two nominees for the District Court Judge vacancy that is open due to the retirement of Judge Remley. Interviews for the position were held on May 11, 2010. Chicchelly and Miller have been certified to the Honorable Marsha K. Ternus, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Iowa, and Chester J. Culver, Governor of the State of Iowa.
The Sixth Judicial Nominating Commission will be holding interviews May 11 of the applicants for the position of District Court Judge. The position is open due to the retirement of Chief Judge David Remley. Interviews will be held beginning at 8:30 a.m. in Courtroom 3-A of the Linn County Courthouse. Two applicants will be selected by the Commission as nominees to be submitted for final selection by Governor Culver.

The CLE presentation is: “Resolved: That the McCarran-Ferguson Act, which provides antitrust immunity to the insurance industry, should be repealed.” Presenters are Donald J. The annual Linn County Bar Association Summer Outing will be held Thursday, July 8, 2010. Registration materials will be going out in May. There will be a CLE in the morning, golf at Hunters Ridge in the afternoon or a bike ride if you choose, followed by happy hour and a catered meal. The meal is free for LCBA members. Complimentary massages from Hands In Harmony will be available before and after golf. A training class for volunteer attorneys assisting with representing Cedar Rapids residents who have received flood buyout offers from the City of Cedar Rapids will be held April 1, 2010 at 4:30 p.m. at Shuttleworth & Ingersoll.
