More than 100 Linn County Bar Association members and members of the bench in Linn County attended the LCBA’s 2010 Bench-Bar Conference and Ceremony to recognize retiring members of the Bench on Tuesday, January 19 at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. The LCBA honored the following individuals who recently retired from service or will be retiring in early 2010: Sixth Judicial District Chief Judge David Remley, Sixth Judicial District Judges Thomas Koehler and Kristin Hibbs, U.S. Northern District of Iowa Bankruptcy Court Judge Paul Kilburg, and Iowa Court of Appeals Judge Van Zimmer. The LCBA also recognized Sixth Judicial District Assistant District Court Administrator Jane Sweaney, who retired in December, as well as Iowa Supreme Court Senior Justice James H. Carter, who is a 50 year member of the LCBA. Special guest Jane Lorentzen, president of the Iowa State Bar Association, was also in attendance.

New Chief Judge of the Sixth Judicial District, Patrick Grady, provided an update on the court’s response to the current judicial budget crisis, as well as paid special tribute to the honorees. An individual tribute was also given to each honoree. The presenters included Judge Grady, Judge Douglas Russell, Connie Alt, Dan Childers, Jay Willems, Harold Denton and Rick Fry.
Following the recognition ceremony, attendees enjoyed a reception catered by Winifred’s and a musical performance by Carlis Faurot and Mike Maas.
