Judicial Magistrate Opening

The following is a notice from the Judicial Magistrate Appointing Commission.

Notice is hereby given that on July 22, 2020, at 9:00 a.m., in the Linn County Courthouse, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the above Commission will meet for the purpose of selecting and appointing one judicial magistrate to fill the unexpired term of Magistrate Carrie Bryner, commencing on  July 25, 2020, pursuant to Chapter 602, the Code, as amended. 

Applications will be taken for a period of 15 days and are available at the office of the Clerk of Court, Linn County Courthouse, Linn County, Iowa.  Applications must be completed and returned no later than noon on Monday, July 20, 2020, to the office of the Clerk of Court.  No applications will be accepted after that time.  A letter of interest, résumé of qualifications, and writing sample should accompany the completed application.  To qualify for nomination by the Linn County Magistrate Commission, an applicant must file a certified application with the chairperson of this magistrate appointing commission by providing the original of the application to the Linn County Clerk of Court by 12:00 noon on Monday, July 20, 2020, using the form approved by the Iowa Supreme Court.  The Linn County Clerk of Court shall then email a copy of the filed application to each of the five commissioners.  The application form is available in the office of the Linn County Clerk of Court, Linn County Courthouse, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; or the form may be requested via email from  Roxann.Repstien@iowacourts.gov.

Prior to July 22, 2020, the Commission will determine the interview procedure.  Applicants selected for an interview will be notified of their interview place and time by letter, phone or email.

Applicants must be residents of Linn County, Iowa, or a resident of a county contiguous to Linn County, and less than 72 years of age as of July 25, 2020.  A candidate must be admitted to practice law in Iowa, unless the person is not admitted to practice law and held a magistrate position on April 1, 2009.  EOE.
